Partnership Increases Impact, Saves Money
The Rookery Bay Research Reserve and Florida International University make resources go farther by sharing staff, facilities, and other assets.
Florida International University and Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve have teamed up to share eleven staff positions plus their facilities, vessels, vehicles, and information resources.
This collaboration makes it possible to offer more field-based instruction to elementary, high school, and university students while enhancing research, education, and management at the 110,000-acre reserve. By combining their efforts on the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, these two organizations tracked and mapped habitat change and monitored water quality, bird migration, and breeding. In the works is a joint facility to strengthen collaboration and attract new research projects. (2017)
