Developing an Ecosystem Services Conceptual Model

Overview

Ecosystem services conceptual models can help people understand how a management action or intervention cascades through an ecological system and results in impacts to human welfare.

Funders, developers of infrastructure projects, businesses, and managers overseeing critical natural resources are becoming increasingly aware of and interested in ecosystem services. Yet practical guidance for incorporating ecosystem services into project considerations can be hard to locate. In this course, you’ll build your own model, and in doing so, learn how it can be used as a way to consistently and transparently support communication, decision-making, and implementation.

The 4-hour virtual course is highly interactive and includes live sessions and self-guided learning, individual consultation with a trainer, and individual and small group work on your specific project.

Learning Outcomes

  • Build your own ecosystem services conceptual model
  • Use ecosystem services conceptual models to support coastal resource decision-making
  • Apply the provided examples and resources to your model development and project refinement
