New Report Highlights Economic Value of Coastal Resources

Putting an economic value on the coast and its resources helps conserve these natural areas. A report from the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership quantified the natural resources of the region and found they provided greater and more diverse economic benefits than previously thought. The report estimated economic benefits exceeding $475 million for commercial sectors that depend directly on natural resources and stated that these sectors employ approximately 36,000 workers generating $672 million in wages each year.
